Subversive Japanese Fashion Meets Skateboarding
Japanese luxury-meets-avant-garde streetwear label Doublet has partnered with DC Shoes to create a majestic technical skate shoe that hybrids three of DC's most iconic footwear silhouettes; the Lynx OG, Kalis OG and Legacy OG.
In partnering on the Doublet collaboration, DC Shoes was pleased to entrust design to Doublet founder, Masayuki Ino, who has a personal relationship with skateboarding and DC's impressive history. He physically deconstructed three of DC's iconic shoes, unpicking each panel to layer and reimagine a new construction that would become the DC X Doublet Hybrid.

Skateboarding is having a moment right now as sales surge worldwide and several of the world's most notable luxury brands pay homage to iconic skateboarding footwear in their collections. This celebration of late 90s/early 2000s skate fashion is perhaps a testament to the vast influence that skateboarding had on the creative directors of these fashion houses in their formative years. Of his own experience, Ino says:
"I used to wear DC SHOES when I was a teenager. I enjoyed the LYNX; my friend, who was good at skateboarding, was wearing KALIS and LEGACY. At that time, I thought if I wore a different model, I might be better at skateboarding. But I remember I couldn't buy other models because I had no money. I was so excited when I learned that I could use DC's memorable OG models to reproduce in this collaboration.
As an adult, I wondered which OG shoe I would buy, but this time I could not choose. Each of DC Shoes' models has a unique characteristic and design. Even though I quit skateboarding, I am still attracted to the technical skateboarding models.
So, this inspired me. I wondered if I could make a super OG DC sneaker that combined all the good points from each of my favourite styles and, and I am proud to introduce my dream sneaker in the DC x Doublet Hybrid."

Ino began his career designing footwear and accessories for iconic Japanese designer, Mihara Yasuhiro before launching his eponymous label Doublet, with Takashi Murakami who at the time, worked as Doublet's pattern-maker. It was at Mihara Yasuhiro that Ino began his relationship with DC Shoes, who had previously collaborated with the design house.
Founded in 2012, Doublet is recognised for high-concept designs, genderless collections and subversive creative handwriting that melds irony, pop culture and art into narratives that are both compelling and entirely out of this world.
In 2018, Mr Ino took out the illustrious LVMH Grand Prize. While continuing to be relatively underground internationally, Doublet is unlikely to stay that way for long. The brand has amassed a loyal celebrity fanbase that includes Kendall Jenner, Lil Uzi Vert, Swae Lee, Mykki Blanco and Travis Scott.
DC x Doublet Hybrid launches on September 11 and, is available at dcshoes.com, Dover Street Market worldwide, 10 Corso Como Seoul, FourTwoFour on Fairfax, RSVP Gallery, Daynight and SSense.
