DC Shoes releases a short documentary highlighting the efforts of Cuba Skate, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating a sustainable future for skateboarding in Cuba. The film sees DC pro-skateboarder Madars Apse join a crew of skateboarders and cinematographers as they get hands-on with Cuba Skate to gain an inside look at the burgeoning skate scene in Cuba.
Beyond bringing skateboarding to the island, the film showcases how Cuba Skate brings together youths in the local community to help them develop skills such as recycling, woodworking, construction, photography, and more. By enriching the Cuban youth with useful life skills, Cuba Skate gives a new generation of leaders the tools for skateboarding and tackling everyday life challenges.
We work with a group of skateboarding organizations, corporations, pro skaters, and skate shops to support and uplift skateboarding here in Cuba.
Miles Jackson, Co-Founder, Cuba Skate
The film sees Apse skating with locals, helping build a DIY skatepark, and making his own skateboard. Seeing the locals find common ground with Apse—a professional skater from Latvia—is a testament to the unifying power of skateboarding and highlights the importance of Cuba Skate.
DC is releasing a limited shoe with Cuba Skate branding to celebrate the launch and will contribute to Cuba Skate to support its ongoing efforts.
